Preliminary Information

What is a Jinzoku...

Living beings which contain more “Yang” energy in the Yin-Yang system.

They are also known as completely normal humans.

With parent-child blood relationships, they form society and live as they work in groups. They used to live secretly, in fear of demons. However, the overall Yang energy in the world rose alongside their population, so they’ve managed to form a kingdom. For those who are experienced in manipulating Qi energy, practitioners are capable of using spells or curses.

 

What is a Gokuzoku...

Human-shaped demonic beings which are born as crystallized “Yin” energy of the Yin-Yang system. Long-lived, they are the ultimate species which do not require eating or sleep to survive. Because they live alone, they are completely and utterly selfish and act on their own desires, without relying on groups to make progress. They are dedicated to their instincts and self-righteous, so their common sense and values are horribly out of place with Jinzoku’s values.

Sunlight is their only weakness, and they will be vaporized if it touches them.

 

1 Thing That Happened Before the Story Proper

 

1) 3 Years Ago (In the suburbs of the provincial city En)

Shu escapes the capital city Gaisei, as the First Imperial Prince is after his life due to the successor conflict. Shiki coincidentally meets Shu, who had been backed into a corner, and Tsubasa and Dai who had come to rescue Shu.

When that happened, a certain cursed artifact accidentally reacted to Shu’s Yang energy, causing its technique to activate. Trapped by that technique, Shiki was no longer able to leave “En”.

And thus begins his lovely shut-in lifestyle, borrowing an extravagant room in a corner of the petulant Tsubasa’s manor!

Because Shiki subconsciously shuts down evildoers or dangerous visitors from being allowed into “En,” he becomes a type of bug repellant as long as he remains in the city.

 

2nd Thing that Happened Before the Story Proper

 

2) 3 Years Ago (In the provincial city En)

Roughly half a year after Shu and Shiki settled down in “En.”

The traveling merchant Eichi, and Issei and Ichiru, who saved him in the midst of his journey, drop by. They, too, end up as freeloaders in Tsubasa’s manor.

 

3) 2 Years Ago (In the provincial city En)

Rikka, the Gokuzoku journeying as his curiosity takes him, visits “En” during one of his detours, and he barges into the scene in a frenzy! The appearance of a Gokuzoku stirs the city up into a huge commotion.

Dai has to be called over.

→And of course, he ends up a freeloader in Tsubasa’s manor, too.

Tsubasa – Jinzoku

The son of the provincial city “En’s” chief (King)

The responsible son of the provincial city’s king.

As Shu’s mother hails from “En,” and was Tsubasa’s father’s cousin, they are distant relatives. Tsubasa somewhat resembles Shu’s mother.

(To Shiki) “Listen, I said I was sorry.”

(To Dai) “Dai-chan! Let’s go!”

A traveling merchant

A traveling merchant who journeys throughout the continent with special bills in hand!

(To Shu) “If you’re okay with me helping you!!”

(To Issei / Ichiru) “The two of them saved me while I was journeying!”

 

Shiki – Gokuzoku

The son of the “King”

A strong and special Gokuzoku who’s much more long-lived than others. He’s become so bored of living that he’s withering up.

(To Shu / Tsubasa) “I don’t have any interest in Jinzoku conflicts.”

(To Dai) “Heh... Are you interested in Gokuzoku?”

(To Rikka) “You’re quite the Jinzoku-favoring Gokuzoku.”

(To Tsubasa) “Don’t rush off on your own.”

(To Shiki) “You’re over 2000 years old...!?”

(To Rikka) “There’s a limit to how curious you can be.”

As Gokuzoku are Yin crystals, they actually do not have blood relationships. A single large mass of Yin energy split apart, creating them, so they’re treated as twins.

(To Dai) “My fists will blast open the walls to knowledge!!!”

 

The Shin Dynasty Era

The kingdom “Shin,” the largest in recorded history, is created in the center of the continent. The royal palace is constructed in the capitol city Gaisei, which was where the Emperor began to conduct his politics. The soldiers accumulated from the vast territories formed might in number, driving out regional demons, beasts, and neighboring countries. It prospered for around 400 years.

As the Emperor boasts the ultimate political power, the successor conflict grew more vicious with every passing generation. In the end, that became the root of the empire’s own destruction.

 

The fourteenth Emperor of the Kingdom of “Shin”

The four brothers’ father. He had become bedridden due to an illness half a year prior, causing the successor conflict, which had been happening behind closed doors, to drastically take a turn for the worse. It seems he doesn’t have much longer to live.

 

First Imperial Prince – Koukin

The eldest son of the four brothers. He is the crown prince, but the position of his mother, a consort, isn’t very high. As he and the third son share mothers, they are currently allied. He is a person brimming with ambition.

The second son, who’s second in line to succeeding the throne. As his mother is the Empress, and he himself is exceptionally skilled, his surroundings push for him to become the next Emperor, regardless of his own wishes.

 

Third Imperial Prince

The third son, third in line for the throne. Has the same mother and father as the First Imperial Prince Koukin.

Average and leaves little mark. Accompanies Koukin.

The fourth son, fourth in line to the throne.

He is highly touted among the common folk as the “People’s King” due to being born with an incredible amount of Yang energy, and regional kings seem to support him ascending.

ANCIENT ERA - The Beginning of the World - Era of Chaos

The Yin/Yang balance has already begun to collapse.

The power ratio is 6 Yin: 4 Yang. The Gokuzoku crux of Yin is born.

 

MIDDLE AGES - Six Gravity + Procellarum

During this time period, the Yin/Yang balance is the absolute worst it could be.

The power ratio is 8 Yin: 2 Yang. Nighttime is long, and monsters and beasts dominate the lands. At the peak of those monsters stands the Gokuzoku. However, an existence known as the crux of Yang is born into the Jinzoku, and the balance between Yin and Yang builds up its recovery.

The oldest cities in human history are made around this time.

EARLY MODERN PERIOD - SolidS + QUELL + infinit0

The Yin/Yang balance has largely improved. The power ratio is 6 Yin: 4 Yang.

The Jinzoku build a kingdom, and there are many settlements being constructed with increasing number during this transitional period. The very first "wars" between fellow humans take place. Meanwhile, the Gokuzoku are slowly decreasing in number.

 

PRESENT DAY - SOARA + Growth + VAZZY + ROCK DOWN

The Yin/Yang balance is nearly at equilibrium. The power ratio is 5 Yin: 5 Yang.

The world has been largely stabilized, so large-scale wars have begun to take place among royal families. At this point, Gokuzoku are treated as a race found only in legends.
