Ayano-san and Akito-san are the same. Every time the Etou family invites me over, I remember the words “nobility” or “dignity.”

I’m not aware of it typically, but I’d like to act with “dignity” befitting my age so that I can act confidently in important settings.

Eichi: Oh, Rikka! What a coincidence. Happy New Year!

Rikka: Mmhmm, Happy New Year to you too. Let’s keep working well together.

Eichi: Yeah, let’s.

 

Rikka: I heard that you’d be spending the end of the year and beginning at your home...

Eichi: Yeah ♪ I was back at my family home from the 30th to today. I helped out with the year-end cleaning and going out to buy stuff. I ate year-passing soba, went to a relative’s place for the New Year’s greetings, had dinner there, and I just got back from it all.

 

Rikka: I imagine that you have a lot of relatives. (laughs)

Eichi: I do~. If anything, there’s more than ever~. My cousins are getting married, so there are a lot of relatives with kids now. (laughs)

Rikka: Did you give lots of New Year’s money?

Eichi: Yeah! I handed out all sorts of decorated gift envelopes, like, “〇〇-kun gets the P*kemon one, while □□-chan gets Sum*kkogurashi~” and they praised me as if I were their god. (laughs)

Rikka: I get how they’d be excited over the decorated envelopes~. When I was a kid, I’d also snap up any differently-designed New Year’s gift envelopes if I had the choice.

Eichi: Huh, really! (laughing) There were some taking entrance exams, so I gave them protective charms... I want them to do their best.

Rikka: High schoolers?

Eichi: Yeah. They’re taking exams to get into college.

Rikka: It’s about time for entrance exams, huh... I hope they can hang in there!

Eichi: It makes me remember my own New Year’s when I was prepping for entrance exams.

They told me it was okay for me to keep studying, but... things around me were so lively and fun that I ended up turning right back. For three days, I ate New Year’s soup and watched the Hakone relay race. It was a nice break. (laughs)

Rikka: I wouldn’t expect any less of you.

 

Eichi: What about you, Rikka? How’d you spend your New Year?

Rikka: I spent the end of the year in the dorms with Shiki ♪

Eichi: Huh? Neither of you went back home?

Rikka: Shiki was too busy with work. My parents spent the end of the year overseas, so there’s no one back home. (laughs)

Eichi: So. Stylish.

Rikka: My parents are still as lovey-dovey as ever. (laughs) They’re having enough fun on their own being husband and wife with themselves.

Of course, I did my New Year’s greetings with them on video call. Shiki was with me, so he greeted my parents, too.

Eichi: Ahaha. It’s been real useful lately. You can see their faces even if you’re far apart.

Rikka: Definitely. Then Shiki video called his family, and I greeted them too.

Eichi: Was Keito-kun there?

Rikka: He was. We did a cheers together through the screen, and he went, “Congrats, Rikka~!” He was considerably drunk at that point. (laughs)

Eichi: I can imagine.

 

Rikka: But still, since you went all the way back home, I thought you wouldn’t stay there and come back within a day. Wouldn’t it be more relaxing if you took it easy there before you came back? Spending three days there would be good, no?

Eichi: Hmm~. I considered that, but I also have family in the dorms, so...

Rikka: Ah, three other family members? (laughs)

Eichi: Yeah. If anything, I’m the one feeling lonely since I’m left out during the end of the year in the dorms.

Eichi: We all have our individual circumstances, and there are people who got to spend all sorts of New Year’s due to the timing being just right.
