[THE IDOLM@STER SideM WakeMini! MUSIC COLLECTION 01, 02, 03]
Each attribute has its own special characteristics, so please enjoy lining up these three together!
To commemorate the on-sale songs split in three attributes of Physical, Mental, and Intelligent featured in the TV anime “Idolm@ster SideM Wakeatte Mini!”, we received comments from each member of the attribute: Nogami Sho-san (voice of Iseya Shiki), Enoki Junya-san (voice of Maita Rui) and Yamashita Daiki-san (voice of Nekoyanagi Kirio).
“For some reason, I didn’t eat today.”
When I eat, it shows up directly on my face. Since today was a SideM-related photoshoot for the first time in a while for me, I didn’t eat anything since the morning! (laughs) ……Well, this is just a stopgap measure, so. (laughs) I’ll eat properly right after this!
Nogami Sho — Born on September 4 / VIMS / Main roles: “TSUKIPRO THE ANIMATION” (Kuga Ichiru), “Bloom into You” (Doujima Suguru), “Tenka Touitsu Koi no Ran ~ Shutsujin! Saika Yo-nin Shuu” (Hibari), “Cells at Work” (Red Blood Cell 2), etc.
Iseya Shiki — Born on April 12, 16 years old. Former Vocalist of the Light Music Club Unit “High×Joker” (Iseya Shiki, Akiyama Hayato, Wakazato Haruna, Fuyumi Jun, Sakaki Natsuki). Looks to be messing around, but he puts sincere effort into singing. Attribute is physical.
“For some reason, my pelvis is dislocated.”
When I went to a chiropractor, I was told “Your pelvis is too far forward.” Likely because I have to keep in mind the correct posture in order to let out my voice, but it seems I’ve continued in a way that bends my back backward constantly. It’s kind of a reverse stoop, body-wise, and I’ve heard that it happens more often in women.
Enoki Junya — Born on October 19 / Atomic Monkey / Main roles: “Mobile Suit Gundam NT” (Jona Basta), “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind” (Pannacotta Fugo), “Run with the Wind” (Jota), etc.
Maita Rui — Born on August 8, 23 years old. A former English teacher, he is a part of the unit “S.E.M” alongside former math teacher Hazama Michio and chemistry teacher Yamashita Jirou. With a bright, sociable personality, he often drops English into his conversations. Attribute is mental.
“For some reason, I quit my pressurized training.”
I started a diet alongside pressurized training, but I quit immediately. My reason for that was because it was too painful…… (laughs) It’s a training where the effects of 2 hours are supposed to show in 30 minutes, but I realized it meant that the pain of 2 hours is condensed into the 30 minutes…… It really was a hellish pain.
Yamashita Daiki — Born on September 7 / Arts Vision / Main roles: “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind” (Narancia Ghirga), “My Hero Academia” (Midoriya Izuku), “Yowamushi Pedal” (Onoda Sakamichi), “Jingai-san no Yome” (Hinowa Tomari), etc.
Nekoyanagi Kirio — Born on November 12, an 18-year-old former rakugo storyteller. Alongside the former Kabuki dancer Hanamura Shouma and former tea ceremony preparer Kiyosumi Kurou, he forms the traditional idol unit “Sai”. A characteristic of him is that he adds “nyansu” at the end of his sentences. Attribute is intelligent.
The idols who have gathered up will create a brand-new chemical reaction
—Your first song themed after the attributes is now on sale, but what did you initially think upon hearing this information?
Nogami: Since it’s a physical song, all the members of “THE Kogadou” will be singing in it, but the other units will have one or two members each in it. Because of that, I think it’ll be possible to see a brand new chemical reaction from this. We’re physical, so I worked hard to bring out the “greatness of energy” that won’t lose to either the mentals or intellis.
Enoki: I think this is the first CD where all members of a given attribute sing, from not only SideM, but the entirety of the Idolm@ster series as well. I looked forward to seeing how each attributes’ respective characteristics would show up in them.
Yamashita: I’m pretty sure I thought so as well. [Others] might doubt some characters that “Is he really intelli?”, but even so, I believed that it would be a smart song befitting the intelligent ones. (laughs)
—Now then, first, please talk about the Physical song, “LET’S GO!”
Nogami: When I first listened to it, I thought it was a song similar to “High×Joker’s”: straightforward that you can enjoy. But, because it was all physicals packed into the song, I was directed with “Can you make it so that we get more smiles from you?” Also, it seems I was the first to record, so the pressure was packed onto me that “Nogami-san’s going to make an impression!”, or so I remember. (laughs)
Enoki: I was one of the last. Maybe that means if I went last, I was the worst.
Yamashita: Can’t you do it more freely if you’re going first?
Nogami: No, a while after, Hamano Daiki-kun (voice of Enjouji Michiru) retorted to me, saying “You went too high!” (laughs)
—Following that, how was the Mental song, “Friendly Smile”?
Enoki: It has a cute pop-like song composition, almost as if it were made to match the anime, and it was very easy to sing. During the parts in the lyrics where there was English, I thought that this was Maita’s identity of sorts, so I went, “I have to do my best here!” and made my voice louder than usual while singing it. (laughs) Also, I imagined that the Producers would say the “shia” “wase” call-and-response alongside us and sang it that way.
—How about the Intelli song, “POKER FAITH”?
Yamashita: Kirio’s English is like Hiragana English*. Because of that, when I received the lyrics at the beginning, I had to work to word it so that it was pronounced in Hiragana. And with that, when I went to the recording and sang it as “Pou-kaa-fei-su♪”, they pointed out the fault by saying, “Please sing it so that it’ll mix with everyone else.” (laughs) But Kirio’s character doesn’t hold anything back, so I think it would be nice if Kirio’s essence came through in it. I worked hard so that he wouldn’t get drowned out by 17 other people!
[*Hiragana, the basic Japanese reading language, is less attuned with English than, say, Katakana. Basically, Kirio pronounces English in a way that sounds more “Japanese”.]
Enoki: Yes, yes. Mine had a lot of characters, too, so I sang it in a way that Maita’s sense of character wouldn’t get covered up.
Nogami: Speaking of characters, it was fun looking over the members singing the CD and asking “How will Shingen( Seiji)-san be singing this song?”
It was a bit emotional seeing everyone gathered up in the first episode
—How was the workplace scene of “Idolm@ster Sidem Wakeatte Mini!” that these songs and many others appeared in?
Nogami: I was really nervous at SideM’s workplace scene…… Everyone there was all people I’d met before, but I was just so nervous at the first episode’s recording. But, that realization of “It’s starting!” is also a nice thing that can only happen with SideM.
Enoki: The previous anime had characters appearing who had not yet made their debuts as idols, but in the case of “Wakeatte Mini!”, everyone was gathered up in the first episode. It was a bit emotional. Plus, it was a mini anime, a staple of the Idolm@ster series! I felt that it was an incredibly impressive thing that SideM had come that far.
Yamashita: I was happiest to see that the character I voiced was moving and talking in the anime. Even though it was for a short time, I think the good points of Kirio were put into it, and I felt that it had infinite possibilities because it was a mini anime.
—Episode 1’s end roll was quite a sight to behold.
Nogami: It was so hard to fit everyone inside the booth, it turned into something like musical chairs. (laughs)
Yamashita: You rarely ever see that many people in one place!
Enoki: And while that was happening, I was absorbed in eating the refreshments. (laughs)
—With that, please say something to all the Producers looking forward to the music.
Nogami: Each and every one of them will be able to make you smile, so I’d recommend it when you’re commuting to work or to school. I sang it while thinking of it as a cheer song, so please head forth to your respective battlefields while listening to it!
Enoki: Each of the CDs has different BGMs that showed up in the anime, as well as many other recordings, so I hope you can enjoy those as well. You can leisurely sing along to the karaoke version at home, or play along with the Wakeminis. Either way, please enjoy it.
Yamashita: The Intelli CD will soon be on sale! I believe it was built up with a cool image, and each idol will have his own individuality shine in the song. I feel that buying all of the CDs will complete the set, so please do put the three together. I would like if you could put them together and smile while comparing them to each other. Without everyone’s support, this song series of the idols being grouped together in attributes wouldn’t have been released, so please…… do buy it-denyansu!
Please enjoy SideM’s first attribute-split singles!
