Alongside returning to our pasts, the world expanded starting there
The “WORLD TRE@SURE” series is finally heading into its climax. With the sense of healing and invigoration obtained from the southern paradise, beautifully dance through the fifth anniversary year!
—The Thai song, “My pen light, SMILE” is a gentle song that makes your heart feel relieved and warm.
Hamano: It has a calmness to it that reveals the personalities of these four. Alongside that, I thought it was a new type of song that could let us see sides to the characters that we wouldn’t be able to view if they were with their unit normally. Unlike the others, (Enjouji) Michiru has a sense of pressure that comes off from him. That’s why I tried to keep a more serenely big-hearted singing style in mind, rather than one with a competitive stance.
Yashiro: Michiru-san also suits it, visually. In that sense, I might be the one who suits that meaning most among the cast members. (laughs) It’s a song that picks up on the mysterious parts of Thailand. The parts of “ไม่เป็นไร” (Maipenrai / It’s all right) and “ขอขอบคุณ” (Koppunkappu / Thank you) were, in some ways, keywords for (Kashiwagi) Tsubasa, so it was easy for me to incorporate them into the song.
Sanpei: It’s supposed to combine with the sight of the “penlights” that the producers are lighting up for us, right? I appreciate how there will definitely be someone having fun with the wordplay in “Idolm@ster SideM”.
Yashiro: Well, you’d expect that from a work of fiction that has a pun-loving man in it.
Sanpei: That’s the sort of “315 Section” it is (laughs), but I thought it was nice because it felt like a sunset in another country.
—The India song, “Mokuromi India Night” is a lively song that seems like an Indian movie.
Sanpei: Yes. It’s completely different from even Thailand’s.
Hamano: Even though the coloring on both CD jackets use a gold-like color, the warmth of the Thai khom loi versus the Indian one’s gorgeous royal palace-feeling make them an interesting pair in their difference.
Sanpei: It was sung in a musical-like drama style, so I decided on singing it as I got a grasp for the story. But I hadn’t set my mind on the finer details, so I overcame those troubles with “passion”. (laughs) The “Accha—“ was “Good,” so it was surprising for me that it had the completely opposite meaning from (Akizuki) Ryou’s “GYAOOOOON!”
Hamano: About the harmonization among the three of them……
Sanpei: D-Did we manage to link together!?
Hamano: In the end, yes. (laughs) By mixing the spice known as (Nekoyanagi) Kirio in with (Amagase) Touma and Ryou-kun, I realized that things could actually wrap up that smoothly.
Yashiro: I thought that their three unique traits wouldn’t disappear no matter what song they were put into. After listening to it in person, I felt emotional from how putting them together increased their power even more. Were there any other songs that had as many calls going back and forth up until now? There were all sorts of sounds coming from here to there, so listening to it was fun, like I was riding on a rollercoaster.
Sanpei: Our “mokuromi [scheme]” is that we’d like everyone to dance in the back of the song when we perform it live.
Yashiro: I want to have fun doing freestyle!
—What do you think your individual idols would do in their respective countries?
Yashiro: The four in Thailand would have fewer accidents happening around them compared to when they’re with their units.
Hamano: You’re right. There aren’t any noisy troublemakers.
Yashiro: But I think Tsubasa would end up feeling lonely when he doesn’t have the chance to be going “There, there.”
Hamano: I feel like Michiru would see a fighting technique, see shops, and find things to incorporate into ramen, being the most excited in the end about everything.
Sanpei: I think Ryou would get dragged around by Touma and Kirio, but while that’s being done, he’s coming to enjoy being in a world he’s never been in before. Also, I think it might be a given, but he’d probably be made to dress in girls’ clothing by the people in the area.
Hamano: Yeah, I can imagine a member of royalty proposing to Ryou, getting him flustered.
—The whole series’ group song “MEET THE WORLD!” was already performed at “THE IDOLM@STER SideM 4th STAGE ~TRE@SURE GATE~”, wasn’t it?
Yashiro: It’s the theme song of the series this time. Thinking it over again, I felt that it was fitting for “Idolm@ster SideM,” because of its sense of challenging something in the unknown that will continue to the future. It reminded me of when I had just become a voice actor and didn’t know left from right when I received the role of Tsubasa. I think Tsubasa would like to have a trip around the world with everyone, too, so I’m sure he’d be glad about how they could see these many landscapes in this way.
Hamano: During the live, I thought it was really easy to sing, and I wondered why. I realized it when I was mulling over the lyrics for recording it. Michiru is originally a man who faces challenges with a worldwide point of view. He’d find hope in working alongside brand new companions and be determined to continue challenging things more and more from now on. It’s a song that has many parts that Michiru can sympathize with.
Sanpei: That’s a good topic! It’d be nice if I had a chance to sing it with everyone someday. It made me think that 315 Productions is finally aiming for the world, but if we were to go somewhere, where would we go first?
Hamano: The idol culture in Thailand is thriving already, so it might be okay to go there. But, if we got back to Japan, Yashiro-kun might have just turned into someone else completely……

Taku: Eh— Mix me up with someone else!? Then I’d really hope Nakamura Shuugo and Uchida Yuuma notice that!
—What are your preferences when you travel?
Hamano: Whether it’s on plane or by Shinkansen, I like watching the unknown scenery spread out before my eyes. I can’t get enough of the sense of expectation. At the location itself, I think it’s important to treasure things with all five of my senses, feeling a new atmosphere or eating delicious things.
Sanpei: Ryou also sings “It’s better to share it with others” [in the song], and the others chime in, saying “It’s delicious, isn’t it,” or “It’s beautiful, isn’t it”. That way sounds more fun, so I’d like travels to be done with many people.

It’s better to share it with others, rather than be by yourself

Hamano: I agree.
Yashiro: I don’t do solo travels, either. I have trauma from the first time I went overseas, where I got so excited that I didn’t eat anything, didn’t sleep enough, got on the plane, and fell ill. I try not to go on an empty stomach. It ends up feeling like work if I have too many plans, so I’d like to enjoy things without being pressed for time. Well, I guess you could call that my way of having fun with all five of my senses!
Hamano: That’s what you call your five senses? (laughs)
—Finally, please tell us what you thought about the fifth anniversary commemoration song “PRIDE STAR” and how motivated you are about the concerts from now on!
Yashiro: I like how “PRIDE STAR” is a song that returned to our pasts alongside expanding the world, starting there. That was what had been originally three people, us in DRAMATIC STARS. Plus 43 others now, it’s become such a lovely universe. I have an especially strong sense that Tsubasa is someone who’s granted me these five years and meetings with many people who support me. I’ll have fun as I work hard to show off the brilliance of that same “SideM” through the next live performance as well.
Hamano: Up until now, I’ve had difficulties and worries here and there, but I was brimming with confidence for this song. I think it gives all the Teachers the feeling of “You’re shining,” rather than “Do your best!” I sang it before others at this year’s Anisama, and the choreography requires ample space, so it feels very freeing. I thought that I’d seem uncool if I did it without dignity. There are people who’ve loved the idols for five years, while I’ve been tasked with this for around three years already. That’s why, while faced with the future, I’ll keep searching for the things I can do myself, without relying on Michiru all the time, and try to grow as both a performer and as a human.
Sanpei: Yes, let’s see. There are parts of being an actor where I’ll continue to grow and parts where I won’t. While we want to enjoy it ourselves, we’re determined to make it the most fun for the Producers watching, so I want to build up the world of “SideM” together with everyone. Especially for me, I wasn’t able to stand onstage with everyone this year, so I’m looking forward to the next live performance. Let’s make it a 2020 that will let us think “It was really a precious time for us,” together!
column - My Christmas!
Sanpei: You know how in overseas comedy movies, there’s……
Hamano: You want an accident like those to happen!?
Sanpei: No, I don’t. (laughs) I’ve always admired those huge Christmas trees that show up in overseas movies. But then I realize it’d be a lot of work to get them harvested.
Yashiro: I guess you have no choice but to plant a fir tree in your home.
Hamano: That sounds good. (laughs) I’ve always wanted to eat a nice and plump roast turkey, so let’s make it a party at your house.
Yashiro: Then, I’ll dress up as Santa and bring a present to your child. I can never forget getting all excited over just the smell of wrapping paper on presents when I was a child. I was thinking that I’d like to see someone’s smiling face.
Sanpei: Wait, hold on, there’s no place for me to even grow a fir tree—!
