[T/N: As this song contains many references to Buddhism due to You’s background as a temple son, I’ll try my best to compile them!

• Rinnetenshou (輪廻転生) is the idea of birth, life, death, and rebirth, often shortened to “rinne.” It is also referred to as Saṃsāra, the cycle of life, matter, and existence throughout religions.

• Shogyou no mujou, also known as shogyou mujou (諸行無常) is the idea that all worldly things must pass. Everything in the world changes and does not stay the same, which is an ideology that serves as the foundation for Buddhism.

• Sanzen sekai (三千世界) is a shortened term for sanzen daisen sekai (三千大千世界). A thousand worlds cubed create one billion worlds, which form the domain of the Buddha. The horizontal cosmology of Buddhism places the worlds into three sets: a thousand, a million, and a billion worlds.

• The sal tree or sarasouju (沙羅双樹) is a symbol in Buddhism to represent impermanence, due to its brief period of flowering. It is also believed that the Buddha was born underneath a sal tree, and when he was dying, he was laid to rest in between two sal trees. As such, it forms his circle of life.

• Full disclosure here. I have no clue if the rap in the middle is a reference to any Buddhist sutras, and I’m too lazy and stupid to try and look it all up. Here are just some terms that I’ve found through it.

  • The four-word “shin mukeige” (心無圭礙) comes from the Heart Sutra, which states that the mind is free from forces, fears, obstacles, when we are born. When we try to achieve a mind free of worries, we will see the emptiness of the elements and overcome suffering.

  • The sanzeshobutsu (三世諸仏) is a concept of the Buddha existing in the past, present, and future. Because there have been multiple Buddhas existing throughout the times, the cycle repeats. It is also known as the Buddhas of the three times, which are often represented by Dipamkara (past), Shakyamuni (present), and Maitreya (future) in iconography.

  • Kukyou nehan (究竟涅槃) is the highest nirvana one can reach.

  • Myakusan bodai (三藐三菩提) is another term for perfect, supreme enlightenment.

• Kono “sadame” wo koete (定め) - Sadame is a term for destiny, fate, or heavenly arrangement, but it can also mean “karma.”]
